Carbide-Tipped Straight-Flute Hand Taps

Carbide-tipped taps have carbide cutting edges that provide excellent hardness and heat resistance and retain their hardness better than high-speed steel or cobalt steel cutting edges. The taps' bodies are made from a material that can tolerate more vibration and shock than carbide. Straight-flute taps are used to create or repair internal threads in blind holes and through holes. As the taps are rotated into a hole to create threads, the chips move into the flutes but are not evacuated. Sometimes called hand taps, carbide-tipped straight-flute taps are typically turned with a tap wrench to create or repair internal threads in blind holes and through holes.
