These gauges are inserted into a bore or other hole and the operator adjusts the thimble until the three contact points touch the sides of the hole. The operator reads the measurement from the main and vernier scale. These micrometers provide measurements within an accuracy of 1 or 2 ten-thousandths of an inch. With a third contact point, these micrometers are self-centering and so eliminate errors when taking two-point measurements off of center. Sets include gauges of multiple measuring ranges that are packaged in a case.
