Machine vises permanently mount to machine worktables to position and hold workpieces during machining. Also called workholding vises, they have wide base that provides a stable mount and wide jaws that provide a large surface area for clamping workpieces. The vises' adjustable jaws can be opened and closed to decrease and increase the clamping force. The jaw height, width, and opening size will determine the size of the workpieces that can be held in the vise.
