General-Purpose & Harsh-Environment Digital Calipers
Digital calipers have adjustable jaws that slide along a beam and are used to perform dimensional measurements. They have an LCD that displays measurements and are easier to read than dial or vernier calipers. General purpose calipers are not used in harsh environments where the instrument could be damaged by liquids or solids. Harsh-environment calipers are IP-rated for use in washdown environments where they may be exposed to splashes of coolant and cutting fluids. Calipers that take inside diameter, outside diameter, step, and depth measurements are also known as 4-way calipers. Calipers with ceramic-tipped jaws are used on abrasive or magnetic materials. Calipers with carbide-tipped jaws are for rough or abrasive surfaces. They have an on/off button, inch and mm control buttons, and display in inches or metric graduations. They’re used in light and heavy manufacturing production, machine and woodworking shops, or where a high degree of precision is required.
