The coarser the belt's or wheel's grit level, the more material it will remove. The finer the belt's or wheel's grit level, the smoother the finish it will leave on the workpiece. Belts cover more surface area and produce a smoother, more even finish than wheels. Wheels can remove material from small areas, curves, and shaped pieces more easily than belts. Bench grinders are compact and can be stored when not in use.
